This week, the already strained relations between India and Pakistan escalated significantly. Islamabad has reported the downing of five Indian fighter jets and 29 drones amid escalating clashes, heightening concerns of a potential larger conflict between the two nuclear-armed nations.

Early Wednesday, Indian forces initiated counterstrikes, while Pakistan's military reported the downing of three French-made Rafales, a Russian-made SU-30MKI, and a MiG-29. India boasts a fleet of over 700 combat aircraft, yet officials have not confirmed any losses, despite the discovery of debris from three planes in various locations.

Both parties have reported using missiles and bombs in their attacks; however, the specifics remain unclear. The situation is further complicated by the proliferation of misinformation online. The Soufan Center think tank has stated that the ongoing information warfare is exacerbated by both parties' desire to maintain a favorable image.

Pakistan's Foreign Minister has stated that the Indian aircraft was downed by Chinese-made J-10C jets, which are believed to be utilizing long-range Chinese PL-12 or PL-15 missiles. Recent developments indicate a growing dependence of Pakistan on Chinese weaponry compared to earlier conflicts. Pakistani markets experienced an uptick as shares of China's AVIC rose, while Dassault Aviation's stock faced a decline amid circulating rumors regarding the loss of its Rafale aircraft.

On Thursday, India deployed Harop drones, manufactured in Israel, targeting Pakistani air defense systems in the vicinity of Lahore and Rawalpindi. Reports indicate that a military base sustained damage, while officials in Pakistan have claimed the interception of 29 drones.

Pakistan reports that 31 civilians have lost their lives, with the toll expected to increase. Both nations have released videos showcasing targeted strikes, yet they present contrasting narratives regarding the initial aggressor and the extent of their losses.
