Combat Veteran Nick Tran Launches Bid for Texas’s 8th Congressional District

Nick Tran, a decorated combat veteran, has made a formal announcement regarding his candidacy for Texas’s 8th Congressional District. This decision follows the announcement from the current representative, Morgan Luttrell, who indicated that he will not run for reelection in September 2025. 

Tran, a Republican, crafted his campaign around a foundation of constitutional conservatism, placing particular emphasis on border security, support for veterans, and energy independence—issues that resonate strongly with the district's constituents. His candidacy is marked by a distinctive blend of military service in the U.S. Army and extensive leadership experience in the energy industry, particularly with Schlumberger.

Tran's personal narrative, starting with his flight from Vietnam as a refugee in 1975, serves as a pivotal focus of his campaign. "I’m responding to the call," Tran stated, emphasizing his enduring dedication to the country that provided his family with a fresh start. 

The congressional aspirant detailed how his military service, encompassing tours in various significant operations, equipped him to "fight for the future of our nation."

Following his time in the military, Tran committed more than ten years to assisting veterans within the corporate sector. At Schlumberger, a leading energy services company, he played a key role in creating a veteran program that earned the title of the top Military Friendly Employer in 2024. His extensive experience, combined with 12 years in the oil and gas sector, positions him well within two of the district's most significant groups: energy workers and veterans. "We require robust borders, safe communities, and unwavering support for our veterans," Tran expressed, outlining his fundamental policy focuses. He has committed to upholding Second Amendment rights and ensuring American energy independence.

The campaign is under the leadership of Jameson Ellis, a former candidate for TX-08 and a fellow advocate of America First, who is confident that Tran’s background aligns well with the district's needs. 

Tran’s platform is grounded in the ideals of constitutional conservatism, emphasizing the complete funding of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection to ensure the security of the southern border and to challenge what he describes as "woke policies."
