Netflix has unveiled a sneak peek of Marines, an upcoming four-part documentary series that provides an intimate glimpse into the United States Marine Corps. On November 10, a new series will debut, chronicling the experiences of Marines from the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit stationed in Okinawa, Japan. This launch coincides with the Marine Corps' 250th birthday celebrations.

Created by Amblin Documentaries and Lucky 8 TV, Marines assembles a group renowned for their expertise in military storytelling. Amblin has a notable history of producing acclaimed works, including the HBO miniseries Band of Brothers and The Pacific. Additionally, the project features Sebastian Junger, the journalist and filmmaker known for the Oscar-nominated Restrepo, in the role of executive producer. Chelsea Yarnell, known for her work on Netflix documentaries like Cheer, takes the helm as director of the new series.

“Marines is a coming-of-age docuseries that chronicles the experiences of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), recognized as the U.S. military’s ‘force in readiness’ in the Pacific,” Amblin stated. “Offering a unique glimpse into the U.S. Marine Corps, the series follows the intense training and heartfelt experiences of young Marines as they build connections and endure the hardships of life at sea.”

This week's trailer presents a compelling blend of combat training scenes, maritime operations, and heartfelt interviews featuring Marines from various ranks and diverse backgrounds. In a pivotal moment, a Marine asserts his identity as a “grunt” and follows up with, “We think too!” The atmosphere conveys a mix of fervor, unity, and deep reflection—characteristics inherent to the military experience.

The 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, part of a select group of seven within the Marine Corps, boasts a force of over 2,000 personnel equipped for swift deployment and humanitarian efforts across the Asia-Pacific area.

Netflix has launched a new project that focuses on the Marine Corps. This fall, the streaming platform debuted Boots, a scripted series based on the memoir The Pink Marine by Greg Cope White, which shares his journey as a gay man navigating boot camp. The recent backlash from the Pentagon highlights the ongoing conversation surrounding the portrayal of military life. In response, the Marines are striving to deliver a more documentary-style representation that authentically captures the experiences of service members in uniform.

Through striking imagery and immersive storytelling, Marines aims to showcase the dedication, commitment, and strength that characterize the Corps as it approaches its 250th anniversary.

On November 10, the highly anticipated series Marines will make its global debut on Netflix.
