On Monday, former President Donald Trump paid tribute to the nation's fallen service members at a Memorial Day ceremony held at Arlington National Cemetery. He referred to them as “great, great warriors” and recognized them as “America’s best and bravest.”

“We hold their remarkable legacy in the highest regard,” Trump stated during his address. “We honor them in their timeless and enduring glory.” He committed to advancing America's journey towards becoming "stronger, prouder, freer, and greater than ever before."

The former president momentarily strayed into political discourse, alluding to the “republic that I am fixing after a long and hard four years.” However, he emphasized that the occasion was not intended for political dialogue.

Former President Trump, accompanied by Vice President JD Vance and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, participated in a solemn ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, where they placed a wreath and rendered a salute as taps were played.

In his remarks, Trump emphasized the sacrifices of fallen heroes, notably Senior Chief Petty Officer Shannon Kent, who lost her life to a suicide bomber in Syria in 2019 during her fifth combat deployment, and Senior Master Sergeant Elroy Harworth, who perished in the Vietnam War, leaving behind a pregnant wife. Harworth’s son dedicated two decades of his life to serving in the Army.

Vice President Vance emphasized the need for caution in deploying troops, highlighting the sacrifices made by fallen service members.

On the same day, Trump took to social media to express a contrasting viewpoint, directing harsh criticisms at President Joe Biden, labeling him as “scum,” and denouncing federal judges for their decisions to block immigration policies. He extended a “Happy Memorial Day!” to the public, a message that has drawn criticism from many who view it as inappropriate, given the day's solemn significance.
