Tim Kennedy, a Green Beret and prominent Army advocate, is now under official scrutiny following his admission of falsely asserting that he received a Bronze Star with Valor, an esteemed accolade for acts of bravery in combat.
Kennedy, a part-time master sergeant in the Maryland National Guard’s Special Operations Detachment-O, admitted in a social media post on Monday that he had “implied directly or indirectly” that he received the valor decoration—a statement he now claims is false.
Kennedy's acknowledgment came amid increasing examination from reporters and independent creators who pointed out discrepancies in his service history. Although Kennedy was awarded a Bronze Star in 2006 for his leadership, it was not connected to acts of valor.
Nonetheless, this recognition is significant for an individual of his stature during that period. Kennedy achieved the rank of Green Beret in 2005, excelled as a top student at Ranger School in 2007, and possesses a Combat Infantryman Badge. He has served one tour each in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Despite his limited deployments, Kennedy emerged as a notable figure within the Army, frequently seen on Fox in uniform and advocating for Army leadership, particularly Gen. Randy George, along with Sergeant Major of the Army Michael Weimer, who is involved in the investigation. His prominence has raised concerns among Army personnel, as certain public affairs officials perceive his inflated assertions and partisan persona as a potential drawback.
The Maryland National Guard has announced that an investigation is currently in progress, emphasizing integrity as a fundamental principle. The potential outcomes may vary from internal disciplinary actions to the removal of his Special Forces tab, but an official decision has yet to be revealed.
Kennedy has yet to reply to inquiries from the press, leaving it uncertain if the Army will maintain his involvement in public capacities in the future.
