Trump Gets Boost on Transgender Issues, but Public Divided Over Youth Policies

A recent poll by the Associated Press and NORC shows that about half of U.S. adults agree with how former President Donald Trump handled transgender issues. This comes at a time when resistance to specific policies that affect transgender youth is growing.

A recent poll of 1,175 adults from May 1 to May 5 shows that the overall approval rate for former President Trump stays at about 40%. On the other hand, his stance on transgender problems seems to be getting a little more support. About two-thirds of those polled agreed with former President Trump that a person's biological sex at birth determines their gender. Leading medical groups disagree with this point of view because they believe that gender is more complicated than just biological factors.

Even though people are still talking about it, there is still an evident lack of agreement among the public about specific policies. A large majority of people are against using government programs, like Medicaid, to pay for care that helps children change their gender. Finally, most people don't think it's a good idea to let transgender kids use the bathrooms that match their gender identity. There is more support for allowing transgender people to serve in the military, but people still have different views.

Former President Trump made essential changes to transgender rights by signing executive orders that make it harder for transgender people to get gender-affirming care and by not letting transgender women play sports for women. As he tries to get back into the presidential race, these acts have become essential to his political plan. Many laws are currently involved in legal disputes.

Even though there are ongoing political tensions, many Americans say they are neutral or haven't decided on important topics. A mother from Virginia named Schuyler Fricchione said, "I'm still working through it." "I am still learning new things."
